One Decision, Made at the Opening

Artshay is a window replacement shop working out of 326 Market St in Riverside. Almost everything we do comes down to one question asked at each opening in your house: does this window get a retrofit, or does the whole frame have to come out.

Why We Talk About It This Way

Most companies quote a house. A number arrives, a brand name is attached to it, and the method is buried somewhere in the small print or not mentioned at all. That works fine right up until the openings are not all the same, which on a Riverside house they very often are not.

A retrofit sets the new window inside the frame that is already in the wall. It is quick, it does not disturb the stucco, and on a sound seventies or eighties tract opening it is genuinely the better buy. A full frame replacement pulls the frame, the fin and the stucco return, flashes the opening again and rebuilds it. It costs roughly double and it takes a stucco patch and a texture match afterwards.

Neither is the premium option. They are answers to different questions.

What We Actually Check

We look at the frame from outside for square, within about a quarter of an inch corner to corner. We press a screwdriver into the sill and see whether it goes anywhere. We look at the stucco return for cracking and at the interior casing for staining under the sill. That inspection takes about twenty minutes for a whole house and it is what the quote is built on.

The Line We Hold

If you have one fogged pane in an otherwise good vinyl window, that is a glass unit swap and we will tell you so before anyone writes a quote for eleven windows. We would rather do the small job and be the people you call in six years.
